Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition

UPDATE, May 14, 2020: Due to the COVID-19 National Emergency, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has moved the 2020 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge to August 13-23. Unfortunately, the revised schedule does not accommodate the  Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition, and we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 event.

IMS Museum management distributed a letter to IHRE participants explaining the decision, as well as plans for 2021, which can be viewed by clicking here.

We look forward to returning this popular event to its traditional place in the Month of May calendar for the 105th Indianapolis 500 in 2021.

Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition (IHRE) background:  On Friday and Saturday of Indianapolis 500 race weekend the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum traditionally hosts about 70 historic Indy 500 race cars and the present-day owners, drivers, and mechanics. The IHRE is a driving exhibition on the famed 2.5-mile IMS oval, and the general public is welcome to visit “Historic Gasoline Alley” at the east parking lot of the Museum to get an up-close look at the cars and talk with our VIP participants.

The Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition is free to the public with paid daily gate admission to the track!

As part of the festivities, the historic vehicles take to the track to showcase the adventure, thrill, automotive innovation, seat-of-the-pants engineering and spirit of competition at the Indianapolis 500.
