Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition

UPDATE, March 27, 2020: Due to the COVID-19 National Emergency, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has moved the 2020 Indianapolis 500 presented by Gainbridge to August 13-23. The IMS Museum is currently working with IMS, vendors and other external constituents to move our traditional “month of May” events to August, including the Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition. We shared this communication (click here) with our IHRE guests on March 26.

We will share more information as soon as possible; in the meantime, we thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time in our shared history.

Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition background:  On Friday and Saturday of Indianapolis 500 race weekend the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum traditionally hosts about 70 historic Indy 500 race cars, along with their present-day owners, drivers, and mechanics, for a driving exhibition on the famed 2.5-mile IMS oval. The general public is welcome to visit “Historic Gasoline Alley” at the east parking lot of the Museum, get an up-close look at the cars, and talk with our VIP participants.

The Indianapolis Historic Racing Exhibition is free to the public with paid daily gate admission to the track!

As part of the festivities, the historic vehicles take to the track to showcase the adventure, thrill, automotive innovation, seat-of-the-pants engineering and spirit of competition at the Indianapolis 500.
